With a temporary residence card, foreigners entering Vietnam do not need to apply for a visa. Temporary residence cards are granted to people in the following cases:

1.Foreigners who are members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations of the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations in Vietnam, and their spouses and children under 18 years of age, the maid accompanying the term is granted a temporary residence card with symbol NG3.

2. Foreigners are granted visas with the symbol LV1, LV2, LS, ĐT1, ĐT2, ĐT3, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LĐ1, LĐ2, TT:

ĐT1 – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations and businesses in Vietnam with a capital contribution of over VND100 billion (US$4.3 million), or investing in the priority fields.

ĐT2 – Issued to the foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with contributed capital of from VND 50 billion to less than VND 100 billion or investing in industries and trades encouraged for investment development investment is decided by the Government.

The duration for ĐT1 and ĐT2 does not exceed five years.

LV1 & LV2 – Issued to foreign working with Vietnamese authorities

LS – Issued to foreign Lawyer working in Vietnam

DH – Issued to Student/Internship

PV1 – Issued to Journalists and journalists permanently residing in Vietnam

LĐ2 – Issued to foreigners who work in Vietnam and are in the category of being required to obtain a work permit.

TT – Issued to foreigners who are spouses, children under 18 years of age of foreigners who are granted visas with symbols LV1, LV2, LS, ĐT1, ĐT2, ĐT3, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LĐ1, LĐ2, or foreigners other than father, mother, wife, husband and children of Vietnamese citizens.
